Timber Wolf

Gender
Male

Height
1'7"

4

Appearance
Fur as black as the night almost completely covers the male's body. The exception is a white star shaped marking on his broad forehead. In contrast with his dark body the star shines brightly in the night, sometimes destroying his chances of a fresh kill. The male's coat is of a normal length, long enough to keep him warm during those cold winter days but not so short as to let him freeze to death in snow. His legs are moderate length, well muscled and frequently in use. The wolf's tail is as black as the rest of him and as long as half of his body length. Unusual for a wolf as young as he, scars grace many parts of his body, the most unusual being the two above his emerald green eyes. They are pale gray, shaped in matching lightning patterns. The nine more are mainly on his body, yet one is on his right hind leg.

Personality
Those who meet Karuk for the first time often think he is quiet and shy. How wrong and right they are! Inside this quiet exterior a fiery ball of a whole different world. Karuk can be fair and just, making things right for people when the time comes. But for those who manage to get on the wrong side of him suffer. Growing up in a pack of lights did not help his temper at all. Trained to attack and kill immediately his father taught Karuk not to trust anyone until you've got to know them very well. Unless you spend time with him, Karuk treats you as a enemy. This helps him yet also hurts him in lots of ways. Often shunned by wolves because of his wary attitude potential mates or friends turn against him for his curt words. Few seek to get to know him better after they've experienced the worst of him. Those that do are sometimes disappointed and others not. It all depends on how much you speak and generally be around him. It won't do to just sit howling to one another. He seeks close speaking, one on one. Friendship is hard to come by so he has none. not that it bothers him. But like most he realizes how important it is to be kind so with his best attempts tries to. However, he doesn't do a very good job and some see him as stupid. Karuk sometimes becomes a little snappy then, mentally and literally. So how did he come to be a light?

Background
Karuk grew up in a large pack consisting of over twenty animals. He was born to a female of high rank. His father was the beta. Not knowing cold or fear Karuk grew up fairly easily. He scuffled and played like most pups but what frightened his pack the most was the fact that he could hunt as well as a adult already. Soon, when he was but five months old a plan was hatched. A plan to drive this unusual wolf from their midst.
-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-

It was the middle of a cold winter and yet again the snow was piled high on the frozen ground. Finding food was extremely difficult. And still they wanted to chuck out Karuk. As the pack was piled together to keep warm the alpha, a surly fellow by the name of Marrow, spoke to Karuk who was crouching away form the others. Why not find us some food, young 'un? Do us all a 'ittle favour Karuk stirred and ran into the icy snow Yes sir! I'll be back soon, sir! he shouted before disappearing into the snow.

-*-*-*-*-*-*

Karuk trudged through the snow wearily. Although he was exhausted Karuk felt he had to go on because he was told by his leader. As he was having a small rest, puzzling over why the alpha chose a pup to find food, a strange smell came into the air. It was not that of a wolf or a deer or rabbit. Trying to think what it was Karuk heard it come closer and closer. Just as fear gripped him for the first time the thing appeared in front of him. He did not know it but it was a man. Karuk trembled and looked for a way out. The man came closer with two Doberman dogs at his heels. They were blocking the only exit from the hollow that he had chosen to rest. He was trapped. As the dogs skulked towards him, teeth bared Karuk had a sudden idea. He could...it would never work!

-*-*-*-*-*-*

His plan worked. After the thought that it wouldn't work Karuk decided to chance it anyway. He leapt forward and slashed one of the dogs' face. It staggered back and he ran with the other close on his heels. As Karuk felt the hot breath on his back the man appeared in his line of view. Knowing that if he was not careful he would be dead any second, Karuk headed for inbetween the legs. Amazingly he got through and was free.

*-*-*-*-*-*

Karuk thought that Marrow had set a trap for him so didn't go back. He knew his mother would be worried but put that behind him. Plodding on winter turned to spring and spring turned to summer. Karuk grew up to be a adult. Renowed as a wandering surviver Karuk settled down around here.
